Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What does it mean when a pair of scissors is ergonomic?

Ergonomic scissors are designed in such a way that the hand, arm, shoulder and back are subjected to as little strain as possible. Ergonomic scissors can reduce pain in the hand, elbow, shoulder and back. These types of scissors can also help if you have carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis or bursitis.

What do the different handle configurations mean: offset handle, straight handle and crane handle?

The type of grip is probably one of the most important considerations when choosing a new pair of scissors. Straight scissors put the greatest strain on the hand, wrist, arm, shoulder, neck and back. Offset handles and scissors with crane handles put less strain on the body and are usually the better choice as the elbow can be lowered when working with the scissors.

Which length of scissors is right for me?

Most scissors have a length of 4.5 inches to 8 inches. The correct length of the scissors depends on the size and length of the hands. Measure the length of the blade in comparison to the middle finger and the total length of the scissors in comparison to the palm. Most women work more comfortably with 5" or 5.5" scissors, while most men prefer 5.5" or 6.0" scissors.

Why is a lifetime manufacturer warranty important?

High-quality hairdressing scissors are an investment, so every good pair of scissors should have a lifetime manufacturer's warranty against manufacturing defects.

Does it matter where my barber scissors are made?

It's like asking if a Louis Vuitton bag is original or fake. High quality cannot be counterfeited, so the original should always be used. All our hair clippers are made of high quality stainless steel. The highest quality scissors are manufactured in Japan and Germany. The steel produced in Japan is considered to be the best shear steel in the world. German steel is extremely hard, which means it lasts long. Our Matsui and Yasaka scissors are manufactured in Japan because we want to offer our customers only high quality products.

What are hollow concave blades?

Concave blades have an even hollow grinding on the inner edge of the blade. This means that a pair of scissors can be both very strong and have a thin edge at the same time, allowing a precise cut. For scissors it is extremely important that the blades are made of high quality steel.

What is a convex edge? What is a bevelled edge?

A bevelled edge is thicker than a convex edge, and this thickness helps to support the sharp edge of the blade. Many stylists prefer a convex edge, but a bevelled edge can give the same results if it is made of high quality steel.

What's a pair of scissors supposed to feel like in my hand?
Before buying a pair of scissors, it is important to consider how the scissors fit in your hand and whether it feels comfortable to hold and guide the scissors. The wrong scissors can contribute to carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, stretch injuries and other problems of the hand, arm, shoulder, neck and back. The right scissors, on the other hand, can prevent these problems. The factors that should be considered are: Weight, length, balance and grip configuration.

Is there a pair of scissors that never need sharpening?

Unfortunately, all scissors have to be sharpened. However, you can prolong the life of the blade by choosing high quality scissors.

What makes lefthand scissors special?
In left hand scissors the sharp edge of the upper blade lies on the left side of the blade. The problem with a left-hand stylist who uses right-hand scissors is that he exerts more pressure on his hand and thus overstrains the hand and wrist. So left-handers should always reach for left-handed scissors.

Why should a pair of scissors fit well in the hand?

Holding the scissors should feel balanced. This means that neither the handle nor the blade should feel too heavy when cutting. It should not feel as if the blade has to be held at the cutting level with effort, otherwise this can lead to rapid hand fatigue.
