Don't forget to tension your scissors for best performance !
Hi {{ person.first_name }}, Here's some essential information to get the most out of your new scissors.
Excited to use your new pair of scissors?
Here is what you need to know.
Scissors are precision instruments. They need to be properly maintained if you want the best for your tools, yourself, and your clients.
Where to start?
New scissors need to be allowed a few days to bed and wear in.
Avoid cutting thick sections of hair or applying heavy thumb pressure during this period.
Check the tension before us
Never make the mistake of not adjusting the tension of your new pair of shars! Before the first use, check to see if the tension is set. See our step-by-step guide at the back of this card.
Scissor tension depends on preferences but if the tension is too loose, it may cause hair to push, fold, or bend. Adjust your tension everyday before you start work to prevent dullness and damage.
Note: Scissors may go loose after first few haircuts and will need a little extra tension added.
Cleaning
Make sure you clean your scissors regularly, preferably after every haircut, and wipe off dust, dirt, and hair fragments using the chamois and scissor oil provided. When removing hair product and other foreign objects, only use hot water, then wipe off thouroughly with a dry towel before cleaning. Never leave the scissors wet or dirty overnight as this will cause rust or corrosion.
Oiling
Ensure scissors are dry and clean. Open your scissors fully. Apply small amounts of scissor oil in front and behind the fulcrum. Open and close scissors gently so the oil spreads over the balancing face.
Troubleshooting
Tension may be too loose. Tighten the tension of your scissors by following our guide at the back.
You may have dropped your scissors. Bring them to your local hairdressing scissor sharpener.
Step 1
Hold the scissors with the tip pointing up.
Continue holding at this angle throughout steps 1 -3.
Step 2
With one hand lift one of the handles to open up the blade of the scissors at about 90 degrees forming something like a cross.
Step 3
Release the top handle and let it drop freely. The blades should close and stop halfway, or about 45 degrees.
TOO LOOSE:
Top of shear will close quickly, sharply, ‘heavily’ and all the way closed
TOO TIGHT:
Top of shear will not move at all when you release it or drops down just a little bit.
Adjust the dial too tightly will damage your shear or thinner.
If it requires adjustment, turn dial (either with fingers or tool depending on model) clockwise for tighter & counter-clockwise for loose. Make adjustment in very small increments, at each turn you will hear a slight ‘click’.
Warranty Policy
Your scissors come with a Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects. This does not include damage caused by the re-sharpening and dropping scissors. Please be aware that damaging your scissor blade edges by chipping, dropping, over-tightening or having tension too loose is not covered by our warranty.
